How to use the D&D dice roller
- Tap a die (d4 to d100) for a quick roll, or type dice notation in the box and press Roll.
- For attacks, checks and saves, set your Modifier and press Roll d20, Advantage or Disadvantage.
- Save rolls you use often, like Longsword: 1d8+3, with a name. They stay in this browser.
- Press Roll ability scores to roll 4d6 and drop the lowest die, six times.
Every die is rolled with your browser's secure random numbers, so each face has exactly the same chance.
Dice notation
- 1d20+5: roll one 20-sided die and add 5.
- 2d6+3: roll two six-sided dice and add 3.
- 1d8+1d6+4: mix different dice in one roll.
- 2d20kh1: roll two d20 and keep the highest (advantage). 2d20kl1 keeps the lowest (disadvantage).
- 4d6dl1: roll four d6 and drop the lowest. dh drops the highest.
- d% or 1d100: percentile dice, 1 to 100.
You can roll up to 100 dice of up to 1,000 sides in one term.
Advantage and disadvantage odds
With advantage you roll two d20 and keep the higher; with disadvantage you keep the lower. This is the chance of rolling the target number or higher on the die, worked out exactly:
| Need on the d20 | Normal roll | Advantage | Disadvantage |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 | 80% | 96% | 64% |
| 8 | 65% | 87.8% | 42.2% |
| 10 | 55% | 79.8% | 30.2% |
| 12 | 45% | 69.8% | 20.2% |
| 15 | 30% | 51% | 9% |
| 18 | 15% | 27.8% | 2.2% |
| 20 | 5% | 9.8% | 0.2% |
Advantage raises the average d20 from 10.5 to about 13.8, and disadvantage lowers it to about 7.2. The chance of a natural 20 almost doubles with advantage, from 5% to 9.75%.
Rolling ability scores: 4d6 drop the lowest
Roll four six-sided dice, drop the lowest and add the other three, six times. The average score is about 12.24. This is how often each result comes up, counted over all 1,296 ways four dice can land:
| Score | Chance |
|---|---|
| 3 to 7 | 5.7% |
| 8 to 9 | 11.8% |
| 10 to 11 | 20.8% |
| 12 to 13 | 26.2% |
| 14 to 15 | 22.5% |
| 16 to 17 | 11.4% |
| 18 | 1.6% |
An 18 comes up 1.6% of the time, so there is about a 9.3% chance of at least one 18 in a set of six. Prefer a fairer start for the whole table? Use the point buy calculator.

Questions
How do I roll with advantage?
Set your modifier and press Advantage. The roller throws two d20, keeps the higher one and adds your modifier. You can also type 2d20kh1+5.
What does 4d6 drop lowest mean?
Roll four six-sided dice, ignore the lowest one and add the other three. It is the usual way to roll ability scores, and the results land between 3 and 18, usually around 12.
Can I save my attack and damage rolls?
Yes. Type the dice, give the roll a name like Longsword or Fireball, and press Save. Saved rolls stay in this browser, with no account.
Is this dice roller fair?
Yes. Each die uses your browser's cryptographic random number generator with a method that avoids the small bias simple dice code can have, so every face is equally likely.
Does it work for D&D 5e and other RPGs?
Yes. It rolls every die used in D&D 5e (2014 and 2024 rules) and in most other tabletop RPGs: d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20 and d100, plus any custom die up to 1,000 sides with dice notation.
Is Wheel Mango an official D&D tool?
No. It is a free, independent dice roller that works for Dungeons & Dragons and any other tabletop game. Dungeons & Dragons is a trademark of Wizards of the Coast.
