How to use the random country generator
- Press Spin, tap the wheel, or press the space bar.
- The wheel stops on a random country, shown in large type.
- Want a country from one part of the world? Press a continent button above the options first.
With 195 countries the slices are too thin to read, so the name appears when the wheel stops. Pick a continent for a wheel you can read as it spins.
Which countries are on the wheel?
All 193 member states of the United Nations, plus the two UN observer states, Vatican City (the Holy See) and Palestine. That makes 195. Territories such as Greenland, Puerto Rico or Hong Kong are not separate countries on this list, but you can type them into the options box.
This list matches the United Nations list of member states, plus its two observer states, checked on 26 September 2026.
Countries use their everyday English names, for example Russia rather than Russian Federation and Czechia rather than Czech Republic.
How the continents are split
The continent buttons follow the United Nations geoscheme (M49), with the Americas split into North and South America:
- Africa: 54 countries, including Egypt.
- Asia: 48, including Turkey, Cyprus, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.
- Europe: 44, including Russia.
- North America: 23, including Central America and the Caribbean.
- South America: 12.
- Oceania: 14, including Australia and New Zealand.
Some countries sit across two continents, so other lists place them differently. The Continents button spins the seven continents, Antarctica included.

Questions
How many countries are there?
This wheel has 195: the 193 United Nations member states and the 2 observer states, Vatican City and Palestine. That is the most common count, though some lists add places such as Kosovo or Taiwan.
Is every country equally likely?
Yes. All 195 countries get a slice of the same size, so a small country has the same 1 in 195 chance as a large one. Your browser's cryptographic random number generator picks where the wheel stops.
Can I spin only one continent?
Yes. Press Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South America or Oceania above the options box.
Can I add or remove countries?
Yes. The options box is fully editable. Delete a line to remove a country, or type a new one. Tick Remove the winner after each spin to go through countries without repeats.
Why is Russia in Europe and Turkey in Asia?
The wheel follows the United Nations geoscheme, which places Russia in Eastern Europe and Turkey in Western Asia. Both span two continents.
