How to use the name generator
- Choose a race and Feminine, Masculine or Any.
- Press New names as often as you like.
- Tap a name to copy it, or tap the star to keep it in Favorites (saved in this browser).
- Turn off Family name for first names only.
Names are built from sounds that suit each race: flowing names for elves, short hard names for dwarves and orcs, cozy family names for halflings and playful ones for gnomes. Tieflings get a chosen word name, like Hope or Ember, as many players like to give them.
Tips for naming a character
- Say it out loud: the table will use it every session, so make it easy to say.
- Add a nickname for long names. Your party will shorten it anyway.
- Match the backstory: a dwarf from a mining clan fits a family name like Ironvein; a wandering elf might drop the family name.
- Check with your DM if the world has its own naming rules.
